 ecognized as Oral\, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month\, a time to incre
 ase awareness of the condition\, risk factors\, statistics and screenings.
  The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 60\,480 new case
 s of oral cavity or oropharyngeal (middle throat) cancer – with 13\,150 de
 aths attributed to it – in 2026. \n“The Head & Neck Cancer Foundation note
 s that oral cancer has a survival rate of 80-90% when diagnosed early\, wh
 ich is why annual screenings are important\,” said Glenn Maron\, DDS\, FAC
 S\, FICD\, of Peachtree Dunwoody Oral & Facial Surgery. \nIn addition to a
 nnual screenings by a qualified healthcare professional\, Dr. Maron recomm
 ends doing monthly self-exams using a bright light and mirror to “look for
  anything out of the ordinary\,” such as white or red patches\, unexplaine
 d swelling or lumps\, and sores that won’t heal – particularly those that
